Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand insists Paul Pogba can be a World Cup success.
Ferdinand is convinced Pogba will be fired up when the French take on Australia, Peru and Denmark in a decidedly winnable Group C.
“Sometimes you have to be angry,” said Ferdinand, who will be a BBC pundit in Russia. “Certain players need that fire in them. I think Paul is one of these guys. If he is angry and hyped for a game you see a better Paul Pogba.
“He’s desperate to announce himself on the world stage. He’s someone who wants to be known as a great player in the history of the French national team. Platini, Zidane – he wants to go down as a guy like that. He’s a showman and someone who wants to be at the centrepiece of what comes out of that team.
“But he has to play well and he’s got to win and it’s not easy. There will be pressure because expectations are huge on France. Him and Antoine Griezmann will be carrying most of the hopes of their nation on their shoulders.”
